Terms of Use
Last updated 15 August 2026
Plain terms for a Markdown editor that runs on your own machine.
Licence to use the app
You may install and use ChatMD Studio on any computer you own or use. There is no device limit.
Your files are yours
The app makes no claim over anything you write, open or convert with it. It reads and writes your files where they already are, and nothing you create with it is owned or licensed to anybody else by using it.
What it costs
Today it is free, in full. Nothing is withheld and no feature asks for payment. What follows is what is intended, stated in advance so nothing arrives as a surprise.
The editor is free forever — reading, writing, search, templates, and converting files into Markdown: PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets and web pages. That part will not start costing money.
A one-time $9.99 purchase is intended to cover the studio features: producing finished documents out of your notes (Word, PDF and e-book), combining many notes into one book, and Ask, Teach, Brain, Changes and Health. Buy once, no subscription.
Commercial use
The prices above are for personal use. Use at or for a business is intended to need a separate commercial licence — that is, use by a company or organisation, or by a person acting in the course of their trade or profession.
Until paid licensing actually exists, all of it is free to everyone, business included. This section is here so the intention is on the record rather than introduced later without warning.
The source code is not open
ChatMD Studio is not open source. Copying, redistributing, decompiling or reusing its source code requires written permission. That is separate from using the app, which these terms permit.
No warranty
The app is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. It is a tool for editing your own files, and you remain responsible for keeping backups of anything you care about — as you should with any editor.
Ending this licence
You may stop using ChatMD Studio at any time by uninstalling it. Nothing needs to be cancelled and no account has to be closed, because there is neither.
This licence ends if you breach these terms — in practice that means redistributing or reusing the source code without permission, or continuing business use once a commercial licence is required and has not been obtained. If that happens you must stop using the app and remove it.
Your files are unaffected either way. Notes you wrote remain yours, stay on your machine in ordinary Markdown files, and are readable in any text editor. Nothing is disabled, locked or taken away, and there is no format you would need this app to open again.
If the app is ever withdrawn or discontinued, copies already installed keep working. There is no server it depends on and no activation check to expire.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio and the federal laws of the United States that apply, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be settled between us goes to the state or federal courts located in Ohio.
This does not take away rights you already have. Consumer protection law where you live may give you rights that cannot be signed away, and nothing here is intended to override them. If you bought through the Microsoft Store, that purchase is also covered by Microsoft's own terms and its refund process.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, the developer is not liable for lost data, lost profits or any indirect loss arising from use of the app.
