About ChatMD Studio

ChatMD Studio is made by Bradley Daniels, an independent developer in Ohio, United States.

Why I built it

The first time I opened Obsidian, I was lost. Its vaults, plugins, settings and syntax all seemed to assume I already knew how it worked. I liked the idea underneath it, notes kept as plain files on your own PC, but I wanted an app that made sense the first time you opened it.

So in July 2026 I started building one: an editor that opens a folder of notes as it is, and that also opens and edits the Word documents and PDFs I actually work with.

The AI part

Once the notes worked, I wanted what I had been after from the start: an AI memory that learns from what you keep, instead of a chat that forgets everything when you close it. I wanted a vault built as much for the AI that reads it as for the person who writes it.

That became Ask, Teach and Brain. Ask answers from your notes and cites the notes each answer came from. Teach lets you add a source and read it before the AI learns from it. Brain maps how your notes connect, using the real links and tags rather than ones an AI made up. All of it works with the AI you already use, such as Claude Code, Codex, Ollama, or your own Claude, OpenAI or Grok key, with no ChatMD server in between.

Where it is now

ChatMD Studio has been on the Microsoft Store since September 2026. The editor is free; Studio is a one-time $24.99 upgrade, and teams can buy it per seat. Your notes stay ordinary files on your PC, so if you ever stop using ChatMD, you keep everything.
