Secrets holds the API keys your tools need, encrypted on this PC.

Keys live in Secrets, not in your notes.

Values are encrypted on disk under a data key that is never stored in the clear, and there is no ChatMD server to send them to.

Nothing spends a key without asking you.

A key allowed for Ask is confirmed before every run and written to its activity record. Turn on the AI-tools setting and a tool on this PC can request a key — or run a program with the key in an environment variable and never see the value — behind a dialog naming the tool each time.

No account behind it.

A forgotten password cannot be reset, because there is no server that could reset it and no copy of your keys anywhere but this PC. That is the trade.

Open a .docx or a PDF from your notes and change it where it is. No export, no copy, no round trip through another app.

Type, split and join paragraphs, set bold, italic, underline and strikethrough, change fonts, sizes and colours, apply paragraph styles, and work with lists, tables, pictures, headers, footers and footnotes. Tracked changes and comments are shown, and you can accept or reject a change or add a comment.

PDFs: a word, or a whole paragraph.

Click a line, type over a word, or choose Edit whole paragraph and rewrite it. The paragraph is laid out again to fit, and the editor says what will happen before you save.

Every text change is read back before the file is written; a page that does not match is refused
